Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chrysler Sebring transmission: solenoid code, solenoid pack, chrysler sebring

Question
Roland,
This is a follow-up from a few days ago regarding my Chrysler Sebring that is shifting into limp mode after driving the car for about fifteen minutes. I can't seem to get a code by turning the ignition switch on and off. Auto Zone readout is as follows: "transmission failure / shift solonoid B malfunction". Thanks again for your help.

Answer
Hi Paul,
You are welcome.
There are four solenoids in the solenoid pack on the side of the transmission, but in the Chrysler manual they are specifically identified, not given "letters'. In any case, you have a couple of ways to go: try switching the transmission control relay (the front-most one in the box under the hood) with a relay of the same part number in the box that is not crucial to operation and see if that might solve it due to a weak relay. If that doesn't do it, then you could check the 4 relay circuits with an ohmmeter. And if that doesn't reveals a wire problem then you could buy a new solenoid pack and install it. It is on the side of the trans facing the front of the car and there are a couple of pages in the manual which describe that job, which is not to demanding. It would be good to have short torque wrench to get the bolts back in to the correct torque. I can xerox and postal mail you the pages that show how to do that. Just tell me a postal mailing address.
