Chrysler Repair: Code 1496 short to ground, throttle position sensor, volt supply

Question
Roland, your answer below is to a problem I'm having with short to ground in my 98 T&C. Is there a way to splice the 3 wires going to the MAP,BARD,TPS(I've located each wire) create a new ground wire and send the wire to pin 61 in the CPU?
Answer
Hi Chris,
The 0122 means the throttle position sensor 5 volt supply is probably shorted so I would check the wires connected to that for a possible short to ground of that wire.  The 0106 means the MAP sensor barometric reading is unreasonable. 0405 means the same for the egr position sensor. The 1496 says the 5 volt supply voltage (which is neeed by those three sensors) is low too.
So it does sound to me like you have a short of the 5 volt supply wire to ground somewhere. You could try disconnecting each sensor and then look at the 5 volt supply wire with a voltmeter which would tell you if the sensor were shorted, or try shaking the harnesses to try and find an intermittent short. The 5 volt supply comes from pin 61 of the powertrain controller and is violet/white.
The 1496 only means that the battery power to the controller was disconnected some time in the past 50-100 key on-off cycles.

Answer
Hi Mark,
If the wires you are seeking to splice are violet/white then those are not ground wires but rather 5v supply wires that go to the sensors from pin 61. If the existing wires show no voltage then there is a short to ground involved. the single wire from pin 61 goes to a splice on the left side fender which is where you might want to go to in order to separate the single wire from the three wires and isolated which one is shorted, repair the short and close the splice. The exact location of the splice depends upon which engine is in the car. If you want I can xerox the drawing that shows where to find the splice and postal mail it to you. Send me back a postal address and tell me which engine you have.
If the color is different let me know that too.
