Chrysler Repair: 2002 sebring starter solenoid, starter solenoid, haynes manual

Question
hi, i found your answers very helpful pertaining to the fuse#8 consistently blowing in a 2002 sebring.  I have this problem, and with your help i have come to the conclusion that i need to replace the solenoid.  I am not a car guy, but i am cheap and would like to fix this myself.  i have a haynes manual with instructions on how to remove the starter, but i just wanted to know if when the starter is removed, can just the solenoid be replaced or does the whole unit need replacing?  thanks

Answer
Hi Damien,
It was the case in the past that the solenoid was sold separately and so it could be replaced. It seems to me this is less likely these days, an the parts stores push buying a 'rebuilt starter', but you can certainly ask a dealer or a professional auto parts store. If they can't supply it, then I would check with the starter/alternator/generator rebuilders which are often in business in a metropolitan area as they probably do buy solenoids for the their rebuiling and may sell them over the counter as well.
Please let me know what you learn. Thanks for your kind remarks.
