Chrysler Repair: 95 2,5 L V-6, no start, chrysler sebring, car wont start

QUESTION: Car: 2.5 v6 car wont start for some reason we parked it and went somewhere for approximately 10 mins then when we came back it wont start..we hear clicking noises when we turn the ignition key..the timing belt tries to rotate but wont go..tried jump starting the car but with 2 different cars still no go..is this an engine problem?

ANSWER: If with the jump start the engine would not turn over at the speed you are familiar with, then I would expect there is an issue with the starter motor. If the engine turned over but wouldn't start, then there is an issue with engine controls. Try your ignition key. Turn it "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains
on, to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then do it again to be sure you get a consistent set of flash counts. Then write back with the results and we'll go from there. Tell me the model, body style too.

If you only get 'clicking' (fairly loud), and no turnover(cranking) of the engine proper, then your battery is probably discharged to such a low voltage that it won't operate the starter motor OR the ability of the battery to put out the current necessary to turn the starter is compromised by age. I would consider either removing the battery and take it to be charged or take it to be replaced if its age is about the same as the duration of its original warranty.
The numbers that you read out with the light simply say that the battery connection to the engine computer was disconected recently. If you haven't knowingly diseconnected the battery then I would suggest that you check that the clamps on the battery are tight* and that the wires that are connected to the - post clamp are shiny and tightly connected at their "far" ends (simply follow those wires to their attachement points and check them out).

* Never touch the + post clamp with a wrench unless the - post clamp is first disconnected, for reasons of electrical safety. The replace the - clamp last.
