Chrysler Repair: Chrysler 300m: cigar lighter/ power socket, snap ring plier, amp fuse

Question
QUESTION: How do you replace a map liught bulb? I have removed the screw but the console does not come off and I don't want to force it.
My cigarette lighter outlet keeps blowing fuses. how can I get at it to check the wiring as it is not the item being plugged into it.

ANSWER: Hi Andy,
There are several years that 300m was made, but in general once you remove any screw that is visible the next thing to do is grasp the sides of the overhead console and pull it straight down as that will release it from clips at the rear that you can't see.
On the lighter, let me know the year as that is possibly important to tell you the correct way. Is it fuse Y, 15 amp, that is blowing?

QUESTION: Thanks for the info.
It is a 1999 model and it is the 15 amp fuse in the panel at the side of the dashboard that is blowing.
Many thanks,
Andy

Answer
Hi Andy,
The manual show that to remove the power outlet/cigar lighter you need an external snap ring plier with 90 degree tips to push on the internal bosses on each side of the socket to force the bosses out of the base (look inside to see bosses). Squeeze the pliers to force the bosses out of the base, then gently rock pliers to pull out the base through the mounting ring. Disconnect the wiring and remove the mounting ring.
To install:
Position mounting ring to the instrument panel and feed wires through the ring. Index the cap and mount ring with the index tab at 9 o'clock to the key in the instrument panel. Install the ring.
Connect wires to base. Orient base alignment rib at 11 o'clock to mate the grovve in mount ring at the same location. Push base into the bezel till it locks. Install cigar lighter cap and check operation of element.
