Chrysler Repair: Cruise Control and horn failed, sebring lx, clockspring

Question
My cruise and horn are not working.  Is there a simple answer to this, like a fuse, or is it a major repair. They both went out at the same time.  I drive a sebring lx 2004

Answer
Hi Vivian,
Those systems are independent of one another except that they share one component: the flexible multi-wire connection between the steering wheel and the steering column called the "clockspring". It also carries the wires to the air bag restraint. If the air bag warning light is also "on" that would further corroborate it, but I do believe that this component has failed even if not. If the air bag warning light were "on" you might get it replaced free under a safery feature extended warranty. Or you could check on the Chrysler website to see if there might be a recall on the clockspring.
To replace it you have to remove the steering wheel and the multi-function switch on the column. It is not a major repair by any means.
