Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Concorde Engine Codes: 0600, 1698, 1996 chrysler concorde, chrysler concorde

Question
I have a 1996 Chrysler Concorde that has the check engine light on. I took the car to Auto Zone and the the following codes were pulled.

P1764, P1698, P0600

Most of the time my gages (gas, rpm, speedometer) just lay flat now. My climate control buttons use to work, but now they behave like there is a short in the wiring. When it works it blows heat. Occasionally I can wiggle the switch and the AC comes on. The lighter just want work any more. I've replace the fuse and is still won't work.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kerry

Answer
Hi Kerry,
The first two codes clearly indicate that the powertrain controller module (pcm) is no good. You could look for a used one from the same  model year car which has the same engine and transmission OR buy a new one. But the cost of a new one will not be cheap. After you replace that we can see what symptoms and codes remain and deal with those individually. The third code is about the transmission but because it is in the digital data loop with the powertrain controller it may be related to the pcm, so deal with it if it remains after the pcm is replaced.
Replacing the pcm is not a major shop charge but it may require a modest bit of re-programming to mate to the rest of the controllers (transmission and body).
