Chrysler Repair: is transmission going out, digit code number, independent shop

1998 town and country was recently diagnosed with "transmission is going out" van has been great,  hubby said it was slipping some when we made trips  to  mtns.  serpentin belt randomly fell off  is there any correlation?  171,000 great miles.

Hi Ava,
The best way to find out is to get a fault code readout, for free at an Autozone parts store or for around $40 at an independent shop. Ask for the 4 digit code number, what they mean, what they recommend. Then write back and we'll compare notes with the shop manual for your transmission. Serpenting has nothing to do with the trans.
