Chrysler Repair: 1989 New Yorker anti-theft causing engine to not start, engine controller, code numbers

Question
Ok, to start my car was running very poorly. Hard idle, and would just die for no reason, and smells very gassy and white smoke coming from exhaust. So we changed spark plugs, dist. cap, and roater and and put in fuel cleaner, and cleaned the air filter.
Started it up, and seemed GREAT. then turned it off, tried to start it again, and it wont even start. The anti theft just keeps coming on. Wont even let it start. (The car had set for about 2 months after it was dyeing on me, until today when we tried to fix it).
Any ideas?
thanks

Answer
Hi Tiffany,
Try the ignition key to get the fault code stored in the engine controller:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash. etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. The group the counts in pairs to form the 2-digit fault code numbers. Then go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a list of what the codes mean. Then if it isn't clear what to do write back.

I just saw your question in the 'pool' to which it had been referred after 'shopteacher' dropped out of the service, apparently.
