Chrysler Repair: No diagnostic code readout; 94 3.3L LH-body, 1994 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
QUESTION: I have a code reader and cannot find whereto connect it at in the vehicle. its not under the dash its on a 1994 chrysler lhs

ANSWER: Hi Justin,
On the '94, and most '95 models, the system is OBD-I so the 16-pin reader and plug won't work. There is instead two different plugs and you would need an OBD-I reader to read the codes. However, you can access the engine controller with the ignition key to get 2-digit codes out via the check engine light:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapased time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of a consistent set of counts. Group the counts in pairs in the order of appearance. The last code, 55, means 'end of readout'. Then write back or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a translation.
The body computer/transminssion controller codes can only be read by a data link connector plug and OBD-I reader such as the Chrysler DRB II or a Snap-on Scanner with such a plug (6 pins, 3 on a side) the socket for which you will find under the dash near the fuse box.

QUESTION: hi roland its justin with the 1994 crysler lhs, 3.5 litre. I am still puzzled about this car but believe i am getting it narrowed down. to refresh you there is no fuel no spark to the engine, but it does turn over. I cannot get the OBD (on,off,on,off,on key method) to work and i hooked up an actron cp9190 scanner to the car and it cannot communicate with the vehicle. Any suggestions? I'm guessing its one of the computers or the wiring to, that is the issue. There is two computers that i know of; one under the dash and the other is front passengers side engine compartment. Do you know which computer controls the diagnostics system? My haynes manual does not say. Any help is grateful. thanks

Answer
Hi Justin,
The engine computer is the one in the engine compartment on the right side under the air filter box. The one in the cabin is the body computer. The basic power should be on pin 3 of the plug, pin 5 should be grounded, 9 should have power when the key is in the 'run' position; with the plug inserted pins 26 and 46 are the digital data bus lines and they should have a bias voltage of +/- 2.5v (+ on 26, - on 46), 6 should show 5v, 7 should show 8v. All the other pins are operational assignments so they would not be related to a non-communication problem. The body computer also is on the data bus system as are other modules.
Good luck on the search.
