Chrysler Repair: 2001 Concorde: radio quits/battery discharges, discharges, fuse

Question
My car normally runs and drives great, however occasionally the radio will go out as if it has lost power and won't come back on.  After the car has been parked overnight, the battery will be dead and the car will have to jump started.  Once it is running again the radio will be back on with all of the preset station and clock being incorrect or wrong.  Any idea what the problem may be?
Thanks for any help you my be able to give.

Answer
Hi Russell,
Is there any chance that you have a coin or piece of metal in the cigarette lighter socket area? That is one way the power could be pulled down from the radio and then have it kill the battery also. There is a fuse that should blow to prevent this, but possibly the item that is shorting out the lighter socket is not drawing enough current to blow the fuse but enough to kill the radio and then discharge the battery. The radio presets are on a different circuit and don't require much voltage to be retained, while the clock will stop perhaps at an early stage of the draining of the battery.
So take a look around the cigarette lighter socket.
