Question
QUESTION: 1998   ply breeze 2.4 dohc changed the head gasket and put a new timing belt on  now when i go to start it it starts and dies i can give it gas when trying to start and it will start and has a rough idle once you have it started it take gas good and you can hold it at about 3rpms and runs fine  just doesnt run good at idle checked for vac leaks none to be found new plugs wires and plugs

ANSWER: Hi James,
Did you check the exhaust gas recirculation valve (egr) to be sure it is not stuck ajar? If it were, that will lean out the mixture at idle. Try moving the valve stem via the slot, using the tip of a screwdriver. Make sure the spring closes it tight to a dead stop. If not, spray the stem with WD-40 and move it back and forth.
Because it is driveable you can get a fault code readout at an Autozone parts store for free or at an independent garage for about $40. See what that show and let me know.

QUESTION: it has no codes i have a obd2 comp and it dont show any  it ran fine when i took it apart i had to change the head gasket cause of oil leak  bad design on dodge part and i put new timing belt on while i had it apart  thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Jaames,
And did you check the egr?
When you set up the belt timing, were you aware that the TDC position of the crank sprocket if the trailing edge of the tooth with the timing mark? And after you installed it, with the trailing edge aligned to mark on the pump cover, were the cam shaft marks in alignment (after turning the crank around by hand two times)?
