Chrysler Repair: wiring question, white stipe, car wires

Question
QUESTION: i have an 01 intrepid w/2.7 w/good wiring from dash to front fender/fuseblock under hood the rest has been messed up and i am converting it to a 03chrysler 300m 3.5 (i am told these are convertable and all the wires should match somehow)  so i have an 03 3.5 with the wiring good from the engine to this same spot(fuseblock under hood) i have all but 7 wires that r color coded but the 7 i am not sure of  i need maybe a diagram of both wiring harnesses or someone who has them   first question  do the colors stay the same for these two years and second the other wires im not sure where they go to the engine side  but can find out   can i get help for this here or is it too complex?  i can also be reached at all times   might be easier over th phone   thnx  Steve

ANSWER: Hi Steve.
I have the '99 wiring diagrams for both engines, and the '04 diagrams likewise, which is close to what you are working with. The color codes are preserved from year to year pretty religiously by the engineers. Where are the wires left over: and are they  on the implant engine harness or the recipient's power box harness and what are their colors? Any idea where they are attached to on the engine or on the box?

QUESTION: ok  sounds good so far  there are wires from both directions     make sure i descibe the two following corect

ecm is the computer with the two grey plugs in the side
pcm is the box under the wiper fluid fill          (1 large bolt on plug)

ok  on the existing car wires :start from the fender toward ecm/ pcm if not specified

2 black /blue stripe   (split into 4 --)
1-ecm /
1-pcm /
1-14 prong plug top of engine plenum (larger of the two) /
1-large tranny harness plug

2- purple/white stipe  goes from 1@ ecm and  1@ 10-pin-plug on top of engine plenum(smaller of th two)  join into 1 goes to light harness in front bumper

2- purple/ yellow stripe
1-ecm
1-pcm

1- solid blue from ecm to lights harness front bumper

1- dark green/ light green stripe ecm to lights harness

1- yellow /light green stripe to pcm

1- pink/ blue stripe to pcm

1- pink/ black stripe to ecm

now on the 3.5 harness
from fender to engine  unless otherwise specified

1- white/ small green stripe goes to ecm plug number 1-1378601-3/1012-D-L1  (there is a small and big green stripe the big one matched a wire existin on the car )

1- white / blue stripe wrapped adound a solid white wire  twisted together  both goes to a two prong plug @ very end of harness  nothing on the car fits it and i cant find any plug on the engine either so it may be somethin on the 300m not sure

1- purple/ yellow stripe goes to ecm plug number 1-1378601-3/1012-D-L1

1- purple/ orange stripe  goes to ecm plug number 1-1378601-3/1012-D-L1

1-solid yellow goes to ecm plug number 1-1378877-8/1132-D-L1

i am not sure if they all go togethr  some may have been used for only the 2.7 and vice versa for the 3.5     lets see what you can come up with on those and go from there  thnks again sir   Steve

ANSWER: Hi Steve,
Let us agree that what you called the "pcm" is the transmission control module (TCM), and what you called the "ecm" is the PCM (powertrain control module). That is how the manual calls them and so will avoid confusion. I will print out your response and change all the citations and suggest that you do likewise.
On the overall project, Steve, I believe you are going to have to get the PCM from the donor car (and if available the TCM) because there are wires that are needed for one and not for the other and vice versa, all specifically on the plug with wires numbered numbered 1-40. It would be good as well to be sure that the wires in that same plug in the donor car have the same complement of wires as in the recipient car so that the output of the donor pcm will be carried to the donor engine and not be missing in the harness. The engines not only have different components (thus the different wires) but also have different technical operating parameters programmed into the memory so even if it were wired properly it would probably not run well. Were you planning to do that?
I don't have the plug serial numbers that you listed so just describe them as 1-40 and 41-80 for the pcm, and 1-60 on the tcm.
I looked at my '04 manual and find that it has a different controller entirely from the '99-on model, so can't use that at all. They combined the PCM and TCM into a single unit called the NCG and so the wiring will not make any sense if I use that manual.
I will have to rely on my '99 which did use both the 2.7 and 3.5 engines and trust that they apply to the '01 body and the '03 engine you are working with. I'll give it a try to see how far I can get in identifying the wires, etc. but may not get back for a day or so. Let me know if you believe that because of the limitations in my manual situation you would rather try another approach so that I won't waste the effort.

QUESTION: ok i have the ncg for the 03 so i have both the whole 2.7 harness from engine to inside the car and  the 3.5 to the fender from the engine  sorry should have let you know that i have the whole 3.5 harness and i have the ncg that i pulled with the 3.5 donor engine   it has a 4 plug ncg only not a tcm also   only 1 computer it didnt have anyrthinn else with it that is the extent of the wiring harness  4 plugs to ncg 2 plugs to top engin plenum then 2 plugs to tranny harness then small acc plugs    hope that makes it easier for you   i will get the pin position number for any of the wires if you need it   thnx again Steve

Answer
Hi Steve,
That is very useful information to know. I would still wonder which powertrain controller to use because the NCG is an entirely different setup and it poses a number of other compatibility issues with the balance of the '01 wiring I am sure. I don't believe I can effectively help you on the decision and the details of all the issues that would be involved with using the NCG.
I suspect that the best thing I can offer is to make xerox copies of the sections of the '99 manual wiring diagrams for the power distribution box/junction block(fuse box in the cabin)/powertrain/transmission controlller/plug wiring assignments for the '99 (and the '04 manual, same sections, if you use the NCG) and postal mail those to you. I can make copies for 5 cents a side. I can count the pages and give you an idea of the cost.
I believe you will either want to use the NCG or get a  PCM from an '01  3.5L, and not use the 2.7L PCM at all. I'm going to give up for the day now, but let me know how you want to proceed tomorrow when I am shown as 'available' to take a question
