Chrysler Repair: 92 New Yorker:no windows/heater/rear defrost/air bags, 30 amp fuse, fender roland

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland,
Two days ago, my wife was driving the vehicle home. Heater was working fine. She made a stop at a store . When she restarted the vehicle, the air bag light would not go off and the heater wouldn't work. Nor would the power windows. Or the rear defrost.

Any thoughts?

Thanks Roland.

ANSWER: Hi Gerry,
This one is pretty obvious once one studies the wiring diagrams:
There is a 50 amp fuse in the power distribution box under the hood that provide current to one section of the ignition switch that when in the 'run' position provides power to all those items that have failed. So check that fuse, perhaps labelled "blower motor" or "H" and if it isn't frankly blown see if it might have a subtle crack in its wire due to fatigue. If it is o.k., then I would suspect the ignition switch itself.

QUESTION: First of all, thank you for taking time to answer my question Roland. Not sure where to look under the hood. I'm assuming this has nothing to with the fuse panel I can access beside the glove box from inside the car.

ANSWER: Hi Gerry,
Correct. You want the large rectangular box, under the hood, mounted on the driver's side inner fender.

QUESTION: BIG thank you Roland. Pulled the blown fuse and will replace. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Gerry,
Good that you found it. If it re-blows then we'll have to do some analysis as to why. The prime suspect would be the 30 amp fuse #10 in the box by the glove box which supplies the ATC unit so you might want to check that fuse too, now. The ATC might have taken out both fuses?
The other fuses that draw from the 50 amp that blew are only 10 amp each so those circuits are not so suspect. But it could just be the case that the 50 amp wore out.
