Chrysler Repair: Brakes have little pressure and brake light is on., master brake cylinder, chrysler le baron

Question
NY 1995 Chrysler Le Baron GTC convertible's brakes failed on me (not completely there was still some pressure and brake performance. Could it possibly just need brake fluid. I haven't notice any fluid leak in my driveway.

Answer
Hi Nancy,
Yes, it could be low fluid so that is the first thing to check (both reservoirs) the master brake unit located in the engine compartment directly in front of the brake pedal location in the cabin. If one or the other is low then refill to the ring at bottom of the opening. Then inspect for leakage at each of the four wheels. Often you can simply look for vertical wet streakd on the inside surface of the tires which is a clue that the wheel cylinder for that wheel is leaking. Otherwise the tire/wheel should be removed from all four and the wheel cylinders inspected visually. Similarly, check in the cabin where the brake pedal attaches to the master brake cylinder actuation rod to notice any wetness on the rubber dust cover or the carpet directly under the rod/dust cover area. If there is no loss of fluid in the reservoirs, then there is a second test one can do for an internal problem with the system which I can tell you more about.
