Chrysler Repair: driver power window wont go up:Sebring 05, 42 cent stamps, windows work

Question
QUESTION: For the last few weeks the driver side power window in my 2005 Chry Sebring would not go up if it was lowered all the way.  If i left it 1/2 way down it would go up, only if it went all the way down would I have the problem but eventually it would decide to go up.  Now it's in the down position and won't go up.  All other windows work.
Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Suzanne,
The two possibilities are that the motor is weak/the mechanism is balky, or that the electrical connections to the switch/motor are faulty.
If when it was working it sounded like it was laboring, then I would suggest trying to lubricate the tracks that the window moves on to see if that corrects the problem. If you can grasp the edge of the glass and help it up while you try the motor and you sense a response then that theory would be the one to pursue. If you get no sounds from the motor or sense that it is getting power then either the switch is bad or the motor has failed. It is not a fuse issue as all the windows are powered by the same supply circuit.
My latest manual for the Sebring is an '03. I can xerox copy and send some pages that show how to take of the trim panel and check out the mechanism if you want to try that yourself. Use the thank/rate to get back to me with a postal mailing address. If you would send me back three 42-cent stamps that would cover my costs for copying and postage. Tell me if it is a convert or a sedan.

QUESTION: not sure if my comment came over so i'll put it here too!  sounds like it's the motor or the switch as it didn't labor at all, it would go up and down fine all day, as long as it wasn't ALL the way down - thanks for your help!!!

Answer
You will recall that we exchanged q and a's earlier this month about your car. I am competing to be recognized as 'expert of the month' for November, and the voting ends Sunday afternoon. If you would consider giving me a vote, that would be most appreciated. Use the "Thank/rate" tab below where you will see "nomination?" and then change the 'no' to a 'yes' to give me that support. I hope things are well with you and your vehicle.

Hi Suzanne,
You comment arrived, thank you for the evaluation and nomination.
It may just be jammed in the down position, mechanically that is.
I doubt it is the switch or the motor, as you describe the motion as being reliable except at the full down position. Were it the switch or the motor it would have shown itself to be unreliable in other locations of the travel path.
If there is an edge of the glass still protruding I would find a person with a strong hand who would try and pull up on the glass as you try the switch in the lifting direction to see if you can get to start upward. If so, then just avoid dropping the window that low in the future. Or open the interior by removing the trim panel and inspecting the sliding mechanism to locate the source of the binding. Let me know if you want to have the directions for doing that and I will xerox copy and postal mail them to you.
