Chrysler Repair: headlights and ATC, side kick panel, automatic climate control

Question
I have a 1990 5th avenue with 2 problems. The first is the headlight doors won't stay open. I can hear the motor run and observe that the rods turn but they won't stay open when on and won't stay completely closed when off.

The 2nd problem it the Automatic Climate control (digital display). My blower motor runs at full speed no matter what setting it is on. It even runs when you press the off button and the display goes out. The only way to stop it is to pull the fuse.

Thanks

Hi Nick,
On the headlight doors you need to check the motion of the doors for mechanical free play: try rotating the door by hand using the knob concealed under the flap on the radiator top panel which is attached to the motor, both when they are open and when they are closed. If there is free play enough to cause the ajar type of problem then I would conclude that the gear mechanism between the motor and door rod is warn too much and you will need to find a used unit in a wrecking yard or see if a replacement is still available from Chrysler. If the mechanical connection seems to have a minimum of free play, then the problem is electrical in nature and probably would be solved by checking the wiring to the body controller (pin 24 and 25 of the red plug that come from the two relays that open and close the doors)and if that seems to be o.k. then by replacing the body control module located on the passenger side kick panel.
On the ATC motor, I would look for the wires at the blower motor disconnect plug (that is near the blower in the housing) and find the black/tan wire. Trace it back to a multi-pin plug at what is called the power module for the ATC. If you pull that plug and the blower continues to run then the black/tan wire is shorted to ground and needs to lifted from that condition. If pulling the plug stops the blower, then check the violet and the light blue wires on that plug as they run to the control unit in the dash and if neither of those is shorted to ground then the problem is in the control unit itself. Unforunately there are no instructions for servicing that unit but you could examine the fan control switch to see if it appears to be functioning properly or not.
