Chrysler Repair: 95 Cirrus transmission: no back up lamps, postal mail, fuse box

Question
I recently asked you about the trans in my car because it was stuck in 2nd gear and thankfully it was just a relay as you recommended checking first. Thank you. The next problem is lack of back up lights. I don't know that it is related but I can't manually downshift the trans either. This I don't care about but the back up light need to work for inspection. Thank you   Calvin

Answer
Hi Calvin,
'Glad to learn the earlier advice was helpful.
Check the light bulb filaments and also check fuse 4 in the fuse box under the dash. If both those check out, then the problem is with the trans range sensor or the mechanical connection between it and the vertical shift rod mechanism that the shift lever is attached to, located on the front side of the transmission. If you need to get to the range sensor, then unfortunately you have to drain the trans fluid and remove the valve body from the underside of the opening created by removing the pan.
I suspect that the inability to shift down is related to this problem, something mechanical about the shift rod/sensor interconnection, but it might be something just related to the adjustment of the shift lever cable.
I can xerox the page that shows the area and steps, and postal mail that to you if you want to try it yourself. You would want to get the car up on a hoist or at least high enough to give you room to work and see what is going on. You can decide on your skill level compared the task.
You can tell me a postal mailing address via the 'thank and rate' tab.
