Chrysler Repair: 2006 Jeep Blower Fan Operates on High Only, jeep grand cherokee, blower motor resistor

Question
I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The A/C & heat only work on the high setting.  When I turn it down, it simply shuts off.  I saw you answered a similar question for someone with a different vehicle.  Does my jeep have a similar fix?  If so, where/how do I locate the "resistor block"?  Any other suggestions/advice?

Answer
Hi Gabrielle,
With the caveat that I claim to have no expertise with Jeep vehicles and particularly such new ones, here is my best.
That behavior is identical to the Chrysler brand vehicles and because they have the same engineers I suspect the Jeep also has a blower motor resistor block. But I can't tell you where it is. I would go to a Jeep dealer and at the parts department tell them you want to buy a blower motor resistor block for your vehicle. Then ask them to show you the computer parts schematic drawing which will show you visually exactly where it is. They should have that accessible right on the counter.
Another way would be to listen under the dash to locate the blower, then trace the wires from the blower housing to the resistor block to which they should be attached, and that will by your answer. I suspect it will be located nearby the blower, mounted in an air-handling tunnel through which the blower exhausts its air. So that way you may be able to just remove the block, go to the dealer and get a new one.
Please let me know if I am correct or not.
Finally, because the vehicle is so new, you might even get the dealer to replace it for you for free under the new car warranty, including the labor cost.
