Chrysler Repair: oil sending unit, 3.3L engine, radiator hose, oil sending unit

Question
there is oil leaking down on my lower radiator hose and my oil light is coming on.  i checked the oil level and it is ok.  could this be the problem or could it be something else.  if this is the problem where is it and how hard is it to change.  i have a chrysler town and county 1998 3.3

Answer
Hi Brian,
The sending unit is just in front of and slightly below the oil filter. It merely unscrews from the engine block. When replacing it torque the new one to 5 foot-pounds which is not very much. The threads are tapered so if you overdue it you could crack the block. On the otherhand you don't want it to leak either. So as you use your wrench, measure it's length and apply a force that feels like X pounds of weight where X= 5/length of wrench in feet. For a 6" wrench the force would be 10 pounds, for example. You should be able to see if it is leaking by looking at the block where it screws in or the tip of it where the leak is likely to be.
