Chrysler Repair: Brake drag and overheating, brake hoses, metal rim

Question
did you know quite a bit about brakes

Answer
Hi Robert,
Yes, if your brake pads (or shoes) are dragging (meaning that they are rubbing on the disc (or drums) then that can cause the engine to run hotter than normal. You can tell if this is the problem if, after you drive it for a mile or more, when you stop and touch the metal rim or each wheel you find them not to be cool. If the wheels are very hot and you didn't have to use you brakes very much before you stopped then you have brake drag. It can be due to wheel cylinder pistons that are rusty/scored, or failed return springs, or faulty brake hoses that supply the brake cylinders, or a faulty master cylinder, etc. So that is the way to test if that is the cause of the engine overheating.
