Chrysler Repair: 99 town and country turns over but wont start, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
The last time it ran it was chugging at idle.  When i push the gas down the engine died. Now it turns over but doesn't start.

Answer
Hi Mason,
There are two things to do:
Try to get the fault codes that may be stored in the memory of the engine controller. Use the ignition key: Turn it "on-off-on-off-on and leave it on" doing this in less than 5 seconds of elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to read out some code numbers. Write those down and tell me what they are so I can give you advice on what to do.
Try to find the exhaust gas recirculation valve (egr) and see if it might be stuck ajar. In the middle area of the valve between the valve body and the vacuum actuator there is a valve stem with a slot. Use the tip of a screwdriver to lever the stem in and out against spring pressure. It should close tightly with the help of an internal spring. If it doesn't close fully then spray some penetrating oil on the stem where it enters the valve body. If the valve is sticking ajar the mixture at idle is too lean and it dies.
See if that solves the problem.
When you write back tell me the code numbers and also tell me which engine you have.
