Chrysler Repair: 97 van:dash gauges go dead, lights flicker, engine hesitates, coolant temperature sensor, illumination lights

Question
Hi Roland,
Caught up in some family issues. Thank you for your prompt and detailed response. Well the part and labor I paid $135. I am not sure he fixed or used the rebuild part. The warning lights are going on & off. No problem in starting the car also AC and all the lights works fine.

Thank you very much,
Waste

-----Question-----
Hi Roland,
I have a 1997 Town & country. Initial cooling fan stop working, took it to the mechanic and he replaced the computer/sensing module and that fixed the problem but after couple of days I noticed all the gauges working intermitently. Now most of the time they are dead and all other lights on the desh board also goes on and off and also car strarted hesitating/missing while on the road.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Waseem,
I need to understand one thing about the history: did the mechanic replace the engine controller (computer) or just the coolant temperature sensor? (Was the part expensive or cheap would tell me just as well).
And on the dash "lights" do you mean the warning lights or the illumination lights or both?
All of those components along with the engine function are inter-connected by a digital data bus which uses a pair of wires that carry messages constantly back and forth for the gauges, illunimation light levels, warning light on the dash and also the control of the engine is part of that same data bus. So it could be that one of the participating modules in that system is playing havoc with it. Or it could be a simpler power supply or ground wire that is at fault. So tell me the answers to the questions and I may be able to narrow this down.

Answer
Hi Waseem,
You are very welcome. It sounds like the van is running better now. If the only problem remaining is the warning lights on the cluster, then I suspect that you could either have a poorly connected or cracked fuse (check fuse 28 in the power distribution center under the hood and check fuse 2 in the junction block under the dash to see that they are seated well and there is no internal subtle crack in the wire) OR that there is a poor connection in one section of the ignition switch which supplies power to the cluster (specifically on a dark green/red wire from pin 2 of the two-wire plug at the ignition switch, through the fuse box under the dash, to pin 11 at the cluster on an incoming red/white wire. That section of the ignition switch may have a dirty or corroded contact is my guess. So if you can get some spray contact cleaner with a straw tip you might be able to spray the inside of the ignition switch and get rid of the blinking warning lights.
If you have success please let me know.
Best of luck,
Roland
