Chrysler Repair: damper removal, damper pulley, splash shield

Question
Is there a way to get enough clearance for the damper pulley to come off the shaft?  The pulley hits the fame even with the passenger side mount disconnected and the engine down as low as it will go.  How far must it go to come off?  I am interested to know how close I am getting.

Answer
Hi Tom,
I assume that you have the 2.5 V-6 and are trying to change the timing belt. My '96 Cirrus manual says that the right side engine mount has to be removed. To do that you raise the vehicle and remove the splash shield. Then remove the vertical fasteners for the support from the frame rail. Then lower the vehicle and support the engine with a floor jack to take the the weight off the mounts. Then remove the three bolts that are attaching the engine support assembly to the engine bracket.  Installation is the reverse. I hope that would give you the clearance that you need. The timing belt procedure goes on from there with removal of the damper and then the engine support bracket.
