Chrysler Repair: alarm system, small cubes, lock switch

Question
I purchased a  used "99" JXI .The drivers side door lock does not work with the key.How can I disable the factory alarm system.  The kill switch has been activated and I can't start my car.  I tried putting the key in the passanger  door and trunk. The system will  not reset.

Answer
Hi Steffie,
The system is so well integrated into the electronics that I don't know a simple way to disable it. If it is clear that the problem is with the door key lock switch(s) those will need to be troubleshot to find out why. But there are a couple of other things that might get you going at least to drive it until the system can be corrected at a dealer.
First see if the audible warning system that reminds you to remove your ignition key from the ignition switch (when you open the door with the key still in the lock) is working or not. If not, try moving the key up or down in the lock to make it work, then try to start it with the key in that configuration that makes the alarm work.
Another possibility is to look behind the grille-like small door (horizontal stips decor?) that is at the lower edge of the dash to the left of the steering wheel. Inside the door you will see three small cubes installed in a circuit board and one empty cube socket. They are arranged in a square with one socket not in use(the lower right one if you have the automatic trans).
The upper left cube is a relay switch that is part of the anti-theft system and which could be defective if the door key lock switched are not the problem. But even so, if the  those switches are bad, this relay will not close as needed.
Remove that cube and notice that it's socket has four contacts arranged in a square (two are wide side by side and two are narrow side by side, the wider ones should be above the narrower ones). Take a wire (say a paper clip or similar conductor that will fit into the contacts) and use it to jump between the narrower two contacts (insert one end of the paper clip into each of those narrower spaced sockets). Then try to start the car. If it works, great! It is o.k. to leave that jumper in place but it will defeat the theft alarm from stopping a theft, if that solves the no start problem, so you might not want to leave it there.
That is all I can suggest as a stop-gap to get it started.
Write me with any progress you make or if what I have described doesn't apply to your car. I am using the '95 shop manual and assuming it applies to your '99.
