Chrysler Repair: check engine, independent garages, plymouth breeze

Question
check engine,99 plymouth breeze,2.4,84,000 miles, light came in before, then later disappeared,on know, what could it be,how do or can a person check code by turning key how many times, all seems ok with car operating, except light on annoying, please resond thank you

Answer
'98 and later model cars do not offer a readout via the ignition key, rather a separate code reader must be plugged into a socket located under the dash on the driver's side. So you might call around to auto parts stores, such as Autozone, which I have been informed by others who have written to me with questions, who will do a free code readout. Or you can check with independent garages who I see advertise code readouts for $30-40, or finally go to a Chrysler dealer but check out the price first. The code begin with the letter P and is followed by 4 digits. I have the Chrysler manual for the 2.4 so if you get the code let me know what it is and we can review what might be the next steps. If you have the codes read at a shop ask them for the interpretation and how much they would charge to correct it; but you are free to walk away with the information and seek more info or another shop to do the repair.
