Chrysler Repair: dodge cravan front seal replacement, dodge caravan, rear seal

Question
my son has a 1995 dodge caravan.  the front seal is leaking.
is this something that we can tackle in our garage in one day.
does the engine and transmission have to be seperated.
can it be replaced from the front by removing components and pulley assemblies.

Answer
Hello Robert,
In general it is a job that can be done in your garage and with the proper tools in one day. Because it is the front seal the engine and transmission don't need separation (that would only be true for the rear seal). One detail is assessing the job is which engine does he have? I know for the '93 model year there were three possible engines, each with its own peculiarities as regards this job. I have not personally done a front seal on any of these engines, but I do have the shop manuals that are fairly explicit in the details (depending upon which engine). Do you have the manual? If not let me know and I will give you the info from my manuals.
