Classic/Antique Car Repair: Replacement glass windshield, chevy silverado, replacement windshield

Hi,
I have no knowledge of restoration on old vehicles but have purchased an old truck for round the town labor jobs.
I need to find a modern windshield (preferably shatterproof) for an old truck I purchased. It is a 1985 Chevy Silverado pickup truck with the 454 engine. Do regular glass replacement stores know where to get these. Do I have to look for an old like same truck and use a used, or are there modern windows that will fit perfectly?

Yes, modern glass replacement houses can supply the glass you need although they may need to special order it. The reason is that this basic truck series was produced from 1973-1977. Millions were made and many are still out there! Replacement parts availability is good also--both body and mechanical. Check out LMC truck for an eye opening experience on all the stuff out there to restore or customize your truck.

You could possibly find a replacement windshield from a junkyard truck but I wouldn't advise it--automotive glass gets more brittle with age---an apparently good windshield could crack on removal or installation! Go with something new and you'll be miles ahead!

Good luck with your classic truck. It should be a hoss with that 454!
