Classic/Antique Car Repair: 6v convert to 12v, 12 volt systems, buick roadmaster

Question
I got a 52 buick roadmaster 72r  with a 6v system, What do i need to do to update it to a 12v system????

Answer
I don't know anything about your buick, but I do have an opinion on your conversion.  A lot of Model A'er convert to 12 volt systems.  They do this as a band aid to cover up a starting problem.  If you get the A  engine where it should be, it will start every time and there is no need for the 12 volt system.  I feel the same way about your car.  You will go through a lot of work and expense and it really won't make a difference.  The bulbs have to change, and I'm not sure what else.  The starter may work with 12 volts applied, but it was not engineered for 12 volts.  Not sure about all your gages.
I recommend that you install a 6 volt alternator, about $125, and get the engine tuned up to run like a top.  You will be happy with this combination and it will keep the car original, except for the alternator, whick is acceptable by most people.
Good luck, and I wish I could be of more help to you.
