QUESTION: i have got the firing order but is it the same with the distributor or different? whoever had the car before me just plugged what they thought was it in to the distributor so im trying to find out if its the same order or not

Answer
I sense some confusion here - why don't you tell me what you are doing with the engine, and maybe I can help.

The firing order is the order in which the plug wires are installed in the distributor cap, and is also the order in which the cylinders fire.

If the plug wires have been mixed up, the car will not run, or at least won't run right until this is corrected.  You may get some popping out of the exhaust or carburetor when you crank it, but you will know there is something badly wrong.

Plug wires often get mixed up, but there is a procedure to fix it, if you need that procedure explained to you, tell me - that is what I'm here for.  This is probably the most common question I answer, and if you scan my previous answers, you will see the procedure spelled out. However, I don't mind typing it out again.
