Classic/Antique Car Repair: lincoln carb tag, calibration number, high altitude

Question
QUESTION: hi, i got a Lincoln 1977 town car and the carburetor is not running good. the thing is that i want to buy a new one and there no tag on it.it's a motorcraft but can't find someone to help me find the good one. it's a 4 door  with 460 cid auto transmission and I'm from Canada. Thank you

ANSWER: The best numbers that I can come up with are as follows:
The standard carburetor is part number D8PZ9510Z.
If the emissions tag in the engine compartment says "High Altitude" and the car was built before 3/1/77 use #D7VZ9510B after 3/1/77 D8PZ9510AA. Hope this helps.

QUESTION: hi, the emission tag didn't tell me if it's a high altitude.
i got a number on the emission tag d7ve-9c485-da and it tell that the engine family is a "A". the production date is 04/77 and i'm not sure the car come from CAnada maybe U.S? can you tell me what define the last digit like the DA in the number above, because when i'm asking for a carburetor at my autoparts he tell me there was like 10 carb number  for my car . thank you very much for your support.

Answer
9510 defines the part number as a carburetor. The D7 indicates that the first year thyat this carburetor was used was 1977 and D8 would be 1978. The next two digets identify what the carburetor fits. The digets at the end identify what release the part was or what revision. True there could be ten different carburetor that could fit your car depending on where it was built, what market it was built for, the calibration number and Fords whimsey. Brad
