Classic/Antique Car Repair: 41 Ford two-door sedan rear brake drum removal, ford club coupe, propane torch

Question
QUESTION: The right rear brake drum is stuck.  I have tried using at the same time a
propane torch to heat the drum and a gear puller to remove it.

How can I remove this brake drum from the axle?

ANSWER: A gear puller is not heavy enough to pull the drum off the tapered axle shaft. You will need a heavy duty drum puller. Most local tool rental stores have them available.

QUESTION: I did use a heavy duty drum puller.  I am sorry I did not use the correct term.

Can you make another suggestion?

Answer
A good heavy duty drum puller is tighten by whacking it with a heavy hammer. Once you get a good strain on it then take your big hammer and pound the end of the screw. It is this jolt with the pressure of the puller applied that usually breaks the seal loose. If the puller that you are using is tightened by a wrench, it is not heavy enough to do the job.

PS: I have a 41 Ford Club Coupe or as it is called a sedan coupe.
