Classic/Antique Car Repair: Help with 72 mercury comet, mercury comet gt, gt series

Question
I have a '72 mercury comet GT series. I'm not sure what's going on with it. While accelerating, about the time I hit 30 mph,it starts cutting out. Then I ease off the gas a little, it's fine, so I have to kind of baby it up til about 50 mph and then it runs fine. It's a little worse when climbing, like a freeway on-ramp. Is this fuel pump or fuel filter related? Where exactly is the fuel pump located? I know the filter is in the gas tank (dumb idea). I'd like to remove that and put a filter under the hood. You helped me out last year with a starter question that was very helpful (got the job done).
Thanks in advance for taking time to answer this.

Answer
Sounds like your accelerator pump in your carb is bad.

To locate fuel pump follow line back from carb. Several possibilties on location.

Could be bad filter, but really should be worse the higher the speed if that is so.

I'd bet on accelerator pump inside carb.
