Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1976 AMC Pacer horn wont work, horn button, steering wheel

Question
Hi, I just bought a 1976 Pacer and the horn won't work.  There doesn't appear to be a fuse for the horn.  How do I repair it?

Thanks

Answer
There definitely is a fuse, but you can check for voltage without knowing where it is. Locate the wire going to the horn and with someone holding the horn button down, check for voltage in the wire. If you have voltage, then the horn is bad. If none, then you must find out why.

The horn relay is a small metal covered 1x2.5 inch box generally with three small wires located under the hood usually near the horn or back firewall. But you still need to find the fuse and start with first things first.

The owners manual will tell you where the fuse is. If you don't have one, I usually look them up online from the dealer.

If you have exhausted all electrical related possibilities, then you will probably have to pull the steering wheel to repair this. If you have an after market steering wheel that someone has put on the car, it is most likely where the problem lies

I can talk you through the repair, but it is rather involved. Try find the electrical out first.
