Classic/Antique Car Repair: Headlight switch repair for a 1968 Dodge Coronet 318, len dawson, dodge coronet

Question
Hi,

You seem very knowledgeable so I'm hoping you can help answer my question. The headlight switch (rocker style) on my '68 Coronet doesn't work electrically but functions mechanically and I can't buy a replacement part. Do you know where I could buy just the switch and use my chromed plastic rocker as the chrome part is still good? Thanks for your help.

Steven

Answer
I'm very surprised that the usual Mopar parts specialists cannot come up with a new switch for you. I have 67 and 68 Imperials (much rarer cars), and have had pretty good luck with Frank Mitchell, Year One, Atlas Obsolete etc.   Have you done a thorough search on google for Mopar parts dealers?  There is also Len Dawson, Birnbaum, and probably many others.

If you cannot find a new switch, they can usually be rebuilt, but it is a tricky process.  I've done it myself, and I know of a guy who does it for the Imperials - I don't know what he charges, but you could e-mail him and ask if he'd be willing to take a look at yours.

His name is Elijah Scott [imperial1971@yahoo.com]

Tell him I gave you his name - it might help.
