Classic/Antique Car Repair: part ordering, vacuum advance, moss motors

Question
hello again.  I dug under the hood of the 78 spitfire 1500.  the distributor is one that has a lucus pick-up unit inside and a large aluminum vaccuum advance thing with the wires coming from under it.  my electric ignition is out and i am having trouble ordering the right replacement parts because i dont really know what i need.  iv'e seen replacement ignition kits in the catalogs but am unsure if they are going to hook up smoothly.

Answer
If you have a Lucas Opus (pick up wired to the box that supports the vacuum advance unit) and wires exit and no electronic component elsewhere. You will need an aftermarket ignition system which is usually just a pick-up unit complete. You just follow directions that come with the aftermarket unit. Call Moss Motors and they can tell you exactly what you need. The large box on the side of the dist that supports the vacuum advance unit stays on the distributor as it has to support the vacuum advance unit.
