Nissan Repair: Windshield wiper malfunction 1994 Nissan Altima, nissan altima, load amps

Question
QUESTION: I have just replaced the wiper switch and the wiper motor.  The motor works just fine with no wipers attached, but when they are put on the wiper motor stops working.  It still makes a grinding sound but the linkage does not move.  I have tightened down the nut connecting the linkage to the motor to no benefit.

ANSWER: Hi Josh -

What position are the wipers in when you connect the linkage?
UP or parked?

QUESTION: the wipers were in the down position.  I attached the wipers and turned on the system.  They worked for a few strokes and then stopped.  I took them off again and ran the system with out wipers while I observed the linkage.  Everything seemed to work just fine.  Then I put one wiper on and tested that.  It worked fine.  Then I put the other on.  That is when it stopped working moving again, the motor was still trying to move.

Answer
Hi Josh -

I would check the amps on the motor, especially if it is rebuilt. Could be the motor is defective and cannot move the wipers under load. The FLA (full load amps) should be stamped on the motor casing.

Other than that I can't think of anything that would just stop the motor like that.

Hope this helps -
