Dodge Repair: change oil pump, air inlet hose, chain tensioners


Question
is it necessary to lift the engine to change the oil pump on a 2000 durango?

Answer
OIL PUMP
REMOVAL
Remove the oil pan and pick-up tube. Refer to the procedure in this section.
Remove the timing chain cover. Refer to the procedure in this section.
Remove the timing chains and tensioners. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprockets in this section.
Remove the four bolts, primary timing chain tensioner and the oil pump.
INSTALLATION
Position the oil pump onto the crankshaft and install two oil pump retaining bolts.
Position the primary timing chain tensioner and install the two retaining bolts.
Tighten the oil pump and primary timing chain tensioner retaining bolts to 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.) in the sequence shown Oil Pump and Primary Timing Chain Tightening Sequence
Install the secondary timing chain tensioners and timing chains.
Install the timing chain cover.
Install the pick-up tube and oil pan.


OIL PAN 4X2 VEHICLE
REMOVAL
Drain the cooling system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM.
Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to procedure in this section.
Remove the throttle body resonator and air inlet hose.
Remove the intake manifold. Refer to procedure in this section.
Raise vehicle on hoist.
Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifolds. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM.
Remove the structural dust cover Structural Dust Cover Removal / Installation Refer to procedure in this section.
Drain engine oil and remove oil filter.
Position suitable jack under engine.
Remove both left and right side engine mount through bolts Engine Mount Through Bolt and Nut Removal / Installation
Raise engine to provide clearance to remove oil pan.
Place blocks of wood between engine brackets and lower mounts to provide stability to engine
NOTE: Do not pry on oil pan or oil pan gasket. Gasket is mounted to engine and does not come out with oil pan.

Remove the oil pan mounting bolts and oil pan Oil Pan Mounting Bolts and Oil Pan
Unbolt oil pump pickup tube and remove tube and oil pan gasket from engine.
INSTALLATION
Clean the oil pan gasket mating surface of the bedplate and oil pan.
Position the oil pan gasket and pickup tube with new o-ring. Install the mounting bolt and nuts. Tighten bolt and nuts to 28 N·m (20 ft. lbs.)
Position the oil pan and install the mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 15 N·m (11 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown Oil Pan Mounting Bolts and Oil Pan
Raise the engine and remove the blocks of wood.
Lower engine and install both the left and right side engine mount through bolts Engine Mount Through Bolt and Nut Removal / Installation Tighten the nuts to 68 N·m (50 ft. lbs.)
Remove jack and install oil filter.
Install structural dust cover.
Install exhaust pipe onto exhaust manifolds.
Lower vehicle.
Install intake manifold.
Install throttle body resonator and air inlet hose.
Install upper fan shroud.
Fill cooling system.
Fill engine oil.
Start engine and check for leaks.
