Dodge Repair: 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.0 liter V6 stalls/knocks but idles fine, dodge grand caravan, air filter oil

Question -
I've got about 180,000 miles on this van, I tuned it last summer - new rotor, distributor cap, air filter, oil change, new plug wires, new spark plugs, and a new ignition module after the original one failed.
When driving it will knock (like a cylinder isn't firing on the compression stroke) but will keep running; at slower speeds (near stop) it will frequently stall espically if it's under load such as going up a slight incline. It always starts right up after it stalls.
I noticed that a vaccum line from the braking system (booster? the master cylinder bolts to it!)that I think is supposed to go to the cruise control is not hooked up - it has a bolt in it to prevent vaccum loss, I don't know why that was done, and I can't find anything to hook it up to.
I get an error code 12, then a 55 when I check the trouble codes - the van sat for about three months and I had to charge the battery when I started using it again, it ran great for about two weeks and then started the hesitating/knocking/stalling thing.
I have no idea what to do. I thought I'd ask you for some advice before I take it to a mechanic.
Answer -
what kind of a knock does it sound like a lower rod let me know pete

I'm not really sure if its a rod knocking or not - but I don't think it
is. I've never experienced a rod knocking so I wouldn't know it if it was. It's not really a sound at all, it's more like it's just missing/hesitating.

I put a new oxygen sensor in it and it ran great for a little over a day -
no hesitating/knocking at all, then the problem came back although it
isn't nearly as severe as it was (it's only done it 4 times and very
briefly when it has). I think that by using good throttle discipline (fuel
economy mode) that it is less likley to have the hesitation/knock problem - it is also more likely to hesitate/knock when if is fully warmed up as opposed to when it is cold.
I also put in a fuel additive type injector cleaner (Chevron brand).

I checked the error codes again and still all I get is a 12, then a 55.

Thanks for helping me out with this - I'm pretty much out of ideas as far
as what else to try!
