Eagle Repair: 1900 Eagle Vista Voltage Regulator, proper tension, altenator

Question
I have just recently looked at purchasing a 1990 Eagle Vista and the voltage regulator needs to be replaced.  Is this a big or expesive job and is there anything special I should know if I choose to purchase the vehicle and take on the job.  Any infor. would be very helpful.  Mike.

Answer
I've not had the pleasure yet to replace an altenator yet on a Vista.  According to a nationally recognized labor guide to remove the altenator pays 1.2 hours.  To replace the voltage regulator pays 0.4 hours once removed.

If this 2.0L SOHC is like all the rest of Mitsubishi's 2.0L then the hardest part will not be the removal itself so much as it will be the siezing of adjusting bolts and getting the proper tension right on the belt to prevent cold-start belt squeel.

Spray down the bolts with lubricant before starting the job, always disconnect the battery and hopefully you'll be able to get it out of there no problem.  This of course is if you decide to even by the car.
