Ford Repair: Transmission Vibration, good vibration, ford thunderbird

Question
Chris,  my son's car,  1996 or 97 Ford Thunderbird 8 cyl. 105,000 miles,  has a pretty good vibration in the 3rd and 4th gears.  When it shifts from 2nd to 3rd,  the shift is harder than it should be.  My first thought was durty filter and fluid,  but someone told me that the bands in those two gears are all but gone and when the pressure builds up,  then it runs smooth,  but it won't be doing that too much longer.  So,  am I looking at transmission rebuild or replacement?  Thank you for your help.

Answer
hey there. it definitly sounds like an internal fault in the transmission. possible a seal causing a pressure drop and slow engagement of a a set of clutches or a band. or you could have a set of clutches or worn bands. those are two main causes of engament shutter. a transmssion shop can do a pressure test to verify a pressure drop concern, but it sounds more like a rebuild to me. good luck
