Ford Repair: charging indicator light, 1993 mercury tracer, mercury tracer

Question
"I have a 1993 Mercury Tracer and the alternator recently went out. The problem is the "no charge or dummie light" never came on saying thee was a charging problem. Is there a no charge light or should the check engine light should have came on? Why didn't I get some indication light telling me of problems?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

well i don't have any books on this car , but i will tell you what i know from experience, on newer cars check engine lite will come on , not on older cars , also the light may or may not come on depends what part of the alternator went bad , some signs for next time is lights start to dim when the car is not charging , sorry couldn't help you anymore
