My truck will sometimes stall as I come to a stop.  Once it stalls and I try to restart it sounds like the starter is dragging or a bad battery.  I have had both checked and are OK.  If I wait 15-20 minutes the truck starts back up as if there were no problems.  I am afraid to let the rpms drop when I stop so I try to keep them from 750-1000.  I have had it is 2 different shops and neither can pin point why it stalls.  Can you offer some advice.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would check your ground connections and also the battery cables.
Hope this helps,
Erik

I have changed both cables.  The negative side of the battery is not grounded to the block but to a part of the body of the truck.  The cable end was bad so the previous owner just disconnected from battery and put on new cable.  The truck idles at 500-600 rpm.  What ground connections should I look for?  When I come to a stop I watched and as the rpm's drop to 500 the oil pressure gauge starts to fall off.  I quickly step on the gas to keep th etruck running and the oil pressure comes back up to normal.  I have read some of your other answers for some of my problems and you suggested an egr valve to one and a TPS switch to the other, could these cause some of my problems.

What do you mean that the battery cable is not connected to the engine? THAT right there is where I would start. The path of least resistance is what electricity wants. Hook up a ground cable (like the battery cable) to the engine block and go from there.
Hope this helps,
Erik

I have hooked the battery cable back to the block and it appeared to be running OK.  It did die once today as I came to a stop at a light.  It started back right back up.  When the idle started to fall towards 500 rpm the oil pressure gauge fell off to the bottom of the scale.  I replaced a dirty air cleaner and crankcase filter.  I removed the air inlet hoses to the throttle body and sprayed the valves with WD40.  I also pulled the idle air bypass valve and sprayed it with WD40 to make sure it was not sticking.  It seemed to work OK at first but after running and stopping the idle fell off the one time stated above, so I was afraid it would die again so I kept he RPM's at 700-1000.  Keeping the rpms at 700-1000 has an effect on the transmission.  It will not down shift to low and I have to start (I think) in a higher gear and the tranmission then finally catches up to the correct gear.  I have a Chilton's manual on how to check the electrical switches but I am not real sure of my results on the idle air valve.  Will the EGR valve cause the idle not to work as the truck down shifts to a stop?

Ok, now that it seems that you have the battery cables straightened out. I would suggest that you have a garage take a look at the computer system for fault codes, and go from there. The EGR will cause an engine to stall.
Hope this helps,
Erik
