Ford Repair: Electrical?, hazard lights, fusible link

Question
I have a 94 ford escort 1.9l sefi.  The battery went out about two months ago and it has been sitting dormant.  I just bought a new battery today, installed it, and the car wont crank over.  The only thing that works is the cars headlights.  No hazard lights of break lights.  I was wondering what worng with it?  I put some gas in it and it has oil and water.  The only problem I had before was if I put the air conditioner on and came to a stop the car would sometimes die.  Anyhitng you could tell me would be very helpful...Thank you in advance.

Answer
Start by checking all the fuses, if those are ok then there may be a broken fusible link or main fuse. Did you accidently touch the cables to the wrong side of the battery or anything like that?

If it was just the engine won't crank that would be easier, but if the lights aren't working then the solution is not so simple.
