Ford Repair: A/C, compressor clutch, air gap

Question
2001 Taurus- A/C cools for a while then blows hot. After its been off a while it will blow cold again. Where is the low side port? I only see one under the hood but it won't accept the filler hose in the kit I have.

Answer
There are several possibilties for the AC blowing hot air, none of which include low freon unless the system is empty, but if it is empty it will not blow cold at all.

Common trouble on your Taurus can include a broken blend door or faulty blend door motor; excessive wear of the compressor clutch, causing the air gap to be wider than the clutch can operate, especially when hot; or faulty pressure switch that fails when hot.

The low side fitting is in the low side of the system, which will have a larger hose than the high side. Many Fords have the low fitting on or near the accumulator.
