Ford Repair: ignition problem, mercury mystique, solinoid

Question
   Sometimes when I try to crank my Mercury Mystique, it just grinds/buzzes but the engine does not turn over.  Sometimes it cranks up fine.  I'm not completely sure, but I think if I turn the key slightly forward and wait for the humm to end (brief), then it always cranks fine.

  Any idea what this might be, or where to start?

Alan,

Either your starter is going bad or you have a bad cable going from the starter to the solinoid. If the cable is hot to touch when you crank it over, your cable is bad and you will need to replace it. Hope that this helps and good luck.
