Honda Repair: 1995 Civic Hatchback Temp gauge and wiper problems., windshield wiper fluid, windshield wipers

Question
I just recently purchased a 1996 civic hatchback. Upon driving the car i found a couple problems. First off the Temperature gage does not work. Is this a common problem, and if so is it easy to fix?

The next question i have is about the windshield wipers. When i purchased it the wipers were stuck on and wont shut off or spray the windshield wiper fluid, and the rear wiper doesn't even work. Since the front wiper moves i know it isn't the motor, do I need to buy a new lever off the steering column or is there a sensor that might have gone out? What would i need to do to fix/ replace it?

Thank You

Answer
The temperature gauge switch is located on the cylinder head under the distributor. It has one wire & most likely has a broken switch or oil contamination in the connector from an oil leak from the distributor o-ring. It is easy to unscrew the switch & inspect. The wipers could either be a faulty wiper relay or a wiper switch. Look in the dash fuse box for the wiper relay. It is common foe the wipers to do this if the wiper switch is loose. If you can move the switch up & down & the wipers shut off, you probably have a worn out wiper switch.
