Honda Repair: Gear Shifting, manual transmission fluid, honda manual transmission fluid

Question
I have a 1992 Civic DX 1.5L Coupe,  The problem I'm having is after some time when my car has warmed up, when I shift into second gear it feels like I'm not using my clutch.  Meaning, Im hearing metal scraping(gears).  This only happens in second gear and when I have been driving for about an hour, highway or city.

Answer
Ouch! Sorry Tim, but there's no good news for you here. It sounds like your trans is due for an overhaul. These transmissions are VERY sensitive to low fluid levels and wrong fluid being used. Your 2nd gear synchro sleeve and blocker ring are probably shot. Do you have any noise at a stop or when driving slow? (Possible bad bearings).
At any rate, check the fluid first. It needs to be full at all times, and it uses 30 weight engine oil or Honda Manual Transmission Fluid. Never use gear oil or ATF in it, as quick failure is guaranteed.

Good luck.
