Hyundai Repair: brake failure in cruise control, hyundai tuscon, cruise control module

Question
Has anyone encountered brake failure whilst in cruise control. I have a Hyundai Tuscon 2008 plate. Also, in an accident (front of Tuscon hitting the back of another car at 40 M.P.H.)would it be expected for the air bags to deploy.

Answer
Hi, Bruce.  I know of no incidents where Tucson brakes have failed while the cruise control was engaged, but I also do not have the database resources of Hyundai or traffic safety agencies.

Under cruise control operation, I could see two potential types of failures:
1.  The brakes do not function, or
2.  The cruise control module does not receive the signal from the brake pedal switch, causing the cruise control to try to accelerate the vehicle, in effect fighting against the braking effort.

Whether the air bags deploy in a 40 MPH collision will depend on a number of factors, including the speed of the other vehicle, the amount of the collision absorbed by your vehicle, the amount of the collision absorbed by the other vehicle, and the angle of impact.
