Pontiac Repair: 1992 pontiac Grand Prix LE 3.1, head gasket failure, coolant temp

Question
QUESTION: Hi todd. I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix LE 3.1. Ok the current trouble is with the fans. They won't come on either of them. Also at the same time the A/C stopped working. Up to that point they all worked great. Checked ALL relays and fuses. Checked all wiring. Replaced coolant temp sending unit by the EGR valve. I have a whole laundry list of recent repairs that you might be interested in hearing about. The car is now broken down due to an intake gasket leak. Have been steadily working on this car for a year. I am now admitting I need help. If you would like my list of repairs please let me know. Thanks J

ANSWER: Hi jeremy:
You may have more issues then just a intake gasket if you kept driving this and overheating it it more then likley has head gasket failure or worse. that aside the temp sensor you replaced back by the EGR valve is for the gauge not the computer. It has a signe grren wire on it. the engine temp sensor is in the intake manifold has has 2 wires on it yellow and black. I dubt that's it either usually they don't go bad. Not to so that it can't But not likely. what you really need is a true scan tool not a code reader that way to cen see what the coolant temp is reading and you can see in the engine data list if the engine computer is commanding the cooling fan on or not. that will narrow down the issue to either and input or an output problem and go from there. The a/c could be related if the compressor runs but you have no A?C or poor a/c it's because the cooling fans quit working. good luck :-}

QUESTION: I have no A/C at all. The compressor fails to kick on at all. So should I bother installing the new intake gasket? I guess if I could save a few bucks at this point that would be ideal. The driver side wheel bearing went out. Replaced it. 1 week later, water pump went bad (leaking), replaced it. 2 days later, belt tensioner broke, replaced it also removed water pump and pulley and "revisited my work k." 1 month later; power steering pump started to leak, replaced it. 1 week later power steering pressure line burst, replaced it. Car started to miss, replaced front 3 plugs cylinders  2 4 6. Cylinder 4 blew out plug 2 times. Re tapped hole placed in thread insert. Middle coil pack refused to fire, replaced it, shorted out, replaced ignition control module. Fixed! YAY. 2 months later, fans and A/C stopped working. Replaced relays and fuses, checked wiring, nothing.  1 month later noticed power loss and visible coolant loss at intake manifold along with "service engine soon" light.

Answer
this car is a money pit! I would cut your losses unless the car is in prestine condition. Do you know what the trouble code was for the check engine light? It could be due to over heat or numerious other things. It could have a quad driver out in the computer a quad driver is a soild stae relay in the computer that controls outputs you could have a bad computer and that is the issue. You need to give me more info in order to help you out. Again a code reader is not what you need you need a true scan to see what is going on else wise it's just guessing and guessing gets expensive in a hurry :( just jumping in to a repair with out looing into the root cause is not the way to fix it. If this over heated and that cause the leak you need to getto the bottom of the fan issue else wise if you replace the intake it's just doing to over heat a leak somewhere else. Like I sated before these are prone to head gasket failure due to over heating the engine and that get very expensive.

I'm here to help I would expect a good feedback it's a FREE service to you.
